Devices with 4096 or higher possible tile limit should now be fine with map tiles averaging around 8-10MB (so 4096*8 > 32GB sd card limit of Garmin devices). This excessive writes became apparent with the introduction of the 10m contourlines, and the VeloMap buildings layer).Īlso I reworked the whole map creation to create bigger tiles so that you can install larger areas to your devices without suddenly missing an area without any notice because of hitting the 2048 or 4096 tile limit. ![]() I noticed that the map compilation was causing way too many writes to the NVME disks and had to optimize many steps and move things to ramdisk away from NVME in order to not prematurely destroy the NVME drives. I then decided to also upgrade the map compilation server and optimize a lot of processes (e.g. The broken fan on the PSU was really troublesome as the server provider did not find it first as the server would run just fine in rescue mode - but overheat quickly in real use then shut down. After a broken power supply fan caused the websites to be down for 20 hours in August I decided that I should, after 4.5 years migrate the website to a new server (server hardware is usually good for about 5 years of 24/7 use - then it should be replaced as failures are becoming likely). The past few months most of the work has been done on optimizing the map creation and on updating things on the website and website server. A lot of time consumed with a possible outcome being a piece of software that no longer works at all. It's probably not good sense to copy, move, or trash entire BaseCamp version folders as they contain tens of thousands of hidden files. Make sure you have a good HD backup first. Some tedious transfers via a connected gps device might bring that data back, but recreating the folder structures in which those tracks are contained are probably time consuming enough to make the task unworthy.Ī word of warning: Use caution digging around in your Library files and folders. That seemed to do the trick, although I later noted that none of the track data related to date, time, or elevation were transferred to display properly in BaseCamp. Grrrrr!) Since I had abandoned BaseCamp because it will not open my LakeVu marine charts properly (HomePort does), I copied the two files from the HomePort->2.3 folder. (HomePort is not 64-bit software and Garmin apparently is abandoning it. I had to dig into my iMac's Application Support folder when attempting to make my old HomePort collection show up in a new installation of BaseCamp. Or, perhaps simply rename the 4.7 folder '4.8'.) Copy these two files to your 4.8 folder (If there is no 4.8 folder, create one. In there, the important files are AllData.gdb and FolderData.gfi. In Finder, hold down the option and command keys and pull down to 'Library' under 'Go.' Then, navigate to the old database folder: Application Support->Garmin->BaseCamp->Database->4.7. It's still there on your Mac, BC just doesn't point to it properly. This is especially evident when the upgrade is a one tenth increment, such as 4.7 to 4.8. Or, maybe the folder is created but the old data doesn't copy to it properly. Updates to BaseCamp Mac occasionally have a way of not creating the new folder for holding your previous (precious) data.
